Ticket Purchase, Discounts, Exchanges and Refunds

Is the Citadella free to visit?
Visiting the Citadella is free of charge: during opening hours, anyone may enter the Citadella Park, explore the new lookout points created along the former fortress walls, stroll along the surrounding promenade, or visit the Liberty Statue.
However, The Bastion of Liberty historical exhibition, along with the Roof Garden 360 and the Round Bastion Terrace – both accessible via the exhibition – can only be visited with a valid ticket. Where can I purchase tickets and what discounts are available?
Tickets may be purchased at our ticket offices, information points, or online. Advance online purchase is recommended, as visitors are admitted in limited numbers and in the designated time slots only, subject to availability. Can I pay by SZÉP card?
All three SZÉP card types are accepted at our ticket offices and information points. For online purchases, OTP and K&H SZÉP cards are accepted.

What discounts are available for the exhibition?

Can I use a MÁK card for a discount?
MÁK cards are not accepted.

I did not receive my ticket by e-mail after purchasing online. What should I do?
First, please check whether the transaction was successful and whether the email may have landed in your spam folder. If the issue persists, please contact our ticketing partner, Interticket, on +36 1 266 0000 or via email at interticket@interticket.hu.

The exhibition did not open due to unforeseen circumstances, but I purchased a ticket. What should I do?
Tickets may only be refunded or exchanged for another time if the exhibition cannot be visited due to unforeseen circumstances (for example, technical, operational, or safety reasons), and visitors cannot be admitted at the scheduled time. In such cases: Tickets purchased in person may be refunded at our ticket office, whereas tickets purchased online may be refunded via Interticket.

I have purchased a ticket for the wrong time slot. Can I obtain a refund or exchange it for another time slot?
Tickets purchased for an incorrect time slot, or unused due to lateness or non-attendance, cannot be refunded or exchanged.


How to Get Here and Parking

Can the Citadella be reached by car?Where can I park?
The Citadella can be reached via the roads leading up Gellért Hill. However, parking in the area is limited and subject to a fee; therefore, the use of public transport is highly recommended.

How can I reach the Citadella by public transport?
The Citadella can be reached by bus 27 from Móricz Zsigmond körtér, alighting at the Búsuló Juhász (Citadella) stop. From there, the area can be reached by a short walk along Szirtes Road. The entrance (northern side) of the Citadella is approximately 500 metres away, which is around a 6-minute walk. For journey planning, we recommend using the Budapest Public Transport app, BudapestGO.

Can tourist buses enter and park near the Citadella?
Access to the Gellért Hill area by tourist bus is subject to a permit. Except for scheduled city bus services, only vehicles with a valid entry permit may enter the designated zone. Entry is permitted only via the specified access points; all other routes are strictly prohibited. Permits can be requested via the Budapest Közút TOBI system, which requires prior registration. Applications must be submitted no later than two days before the planned entry. Permits are valid for a maximum of one day and may be requested for a date up to 14 days in advance. With such a permit, entry is permitted daily between 6am and 10pm.


Accessibility

Is the Citadella park and The Bastion of Liberty exhibition accessible for wheelchair users?
Both the Citadella Park and The Bastion of Liberty exhibition are fully accessible for wheelchair users. Within the Round Bastion, all levels of the building can be reached by lift. Throughout the park, lookout terraces and wall-walks along the fortress walls can be accessed comfortably.

Can the exhibition be visited with a pushchair?
The exhibition is accessible with a pushchair, provided the child remains in it. Children under the age of two may only enter the exhibition space in a pushchair or in a front-mounted baby carrier.


Photography and Video

Is photography and filming allowed at the Citadella?
Private photography and video recording are permitted in the Citadella Park, at the Liberty Statue, and along the promenade. Photography and video recording are also allowed within the exhibition, but strictly without the use of flash.
During guided tours, thematic walks, and museum or heritage education programmes, video and audio recording is not permitted.
Recording intended for public use is only permitted with prior arrangement and written permission from Várkapitányság Nonprofit Zrt.

How can I apply for a press pass?
Press passes are provided free of charge to members of the press for the promotion of our events, activities and exhibitions, and upon registration. Please send your request to sajto@varkapitanysag.hu at least 3 days before the event.


Other Questions

Is it possible to visit the exhibition as part of an organised group?
Due to high demand and the limited capacity of the venue, organised group visits and advance group bookings are currently not available. Further information on group visits and conditions will be provided in due course.

Who should I contact regarding lost property?
Items lost within the exhibition area may be collected on the same day at the ticket office. After that, they shall be transferred to the security service. For items lost in the park, enquiries can be made at the Operator Office next to the North Steps.

Are personal guided tours available?
The exhibition cannot be visited with a personal guide. Instead, a modern audio guide system leads visitors through the exhibition. The audio guide is included in the ticket price and is available in several languages.

Are dogs allowed in the park?
Pets and other animals may be brought into the park only on a lead, with the exception of guide dogs and assistance dogs. Visitors are kindly asked to keep the area clean by collecting and properly disposing of animal waste in the designated bins.
